When spending money on an advertisement campaign, you should make sure that you will get the maximum out of it. The best thing is to take some time out and think about the “goal” which you want to achieve. Here are some things which may help maximize results of an advertising campaign.

Have a goal
Be clear about what you want out of this campaign. Do you just want traffic? Or do you want to sell something?
Choose the RIGHT place to advertise
This is very important point for effective promotion. Ask yourself series of questions before you decide to advertise somewhere.
- Will you reach your target audience by advertising here?
- Make a list of different options available and choose options that suit your needs. You may want to compare site traffics, origin of traffic etc to choose from list.
- Make sure you always know what your budget is.
Convert coming traffic into returning traffic
Now you are going to advertise your blog or website, you should have some of your best articles ready to post during campaign period (you may want to prepare some writings in advance and choose better of them all). You will get some traffic for sure the idea is to get some returning and loyal visitors out of the campaign. If you have different ideas to go you may have different goals like you may want to sell something. In each case, think about converting the traffic into achieving your goal.
Keep record of numbers
If you use Google analytics or some other tool to track your traffic already, make sure to compare traffic before and aftercampaign. See if you have achieved your goal for traffic or did you achieve your ROI goal?. The important thing here is to analyze traffic after campaign (sustained traffic increase or temporary rise?). This traffic is what you earned as returning visitors.
Make your pages sticky
If you think you are going to advertise the main page of blog or site think again. Always link the advertisement to the most popular posts. Also talk about your future plans and upcoming contests or topic which visitors will want to come back to check. You can always think of having a contest during campaign period to make people to come back or subscribe to your RSS.
Advertisement type
Choosing the type of advertisement also depends on your goal. For instance if you want some traffic and good back-link to your site, you will like to go for a paid review. Similarly, if you are announcing a contest in which you are giving away an IPOD you will like to show an ipod image in your advertisement to attract visitors (banner advertisement).
Ask visitors to come back
Do not ask them directly. You may want to ask them to subscribe to your RSS feed. Another best idea is to launch a contest sometimes after advertisement period. Announce about upcoming contest and ask people to come back for contest.
Review Your campaign
This is very important last step. Review states of traffic and other outcomes from advertisement. Have you accomplished your goal? If not why? What mistakes you made in this campaign and how can you avoid them in future? Reviewing campaign is also important for setting future strategies.
These few things can help for effective promotion and bring in good results. I would love to listen some of your ideas for a successful advertising campaign.
