There are lots of themes for Google Talk and you can customize gtalk according to your style and liking. Here is the short tutorials on how you can install and then change a gtalk theme once you have downloaded the theme file in your computer. You can download free Gtalk themes from here.
How to install Gtalk Theme
Follow these steps to install a theme once it is downloaded.
- Extract the file on your desktop
- If there is an executable, run it and it will install theme for you
- Otherwise, if there is no executable file. you need to install theme manually
- The theme is in the folder that you just extracted. Look for the folder with the same name as your theme name
- After finding the folder, you need to move it to the directory where Google Talk stores all theme files
For Windows XP: Copy it at C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Google Talk\themes\user\chat
For Windows 7: Copy it at C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Google\Google Talk\themes\system\chat
(Note: User name needs to be replaced your Windows user name)
How to change Google Talk theme
Once you have installed the Google Talk theme , you need to change the existing google talk theme for new one. Here are steps to do so.
- Start Google Talk and open settings by clicking ‘Settings’
- Select Appearance from left menu (the last option)
- Your newly installed theme will be in the list. If not, you have done something wrong during installation process
- Select the theme and press OK
