Autoplay of CDs and USBs is headache sometimes. It is always good idea to disable autoplay of these drives so they do not start automatically at the start up. Here I am sharing some tips for Vista users to disable autorun of all drives so they do not run by default when system starts up.
Method 1: Using Registry edit

- Run regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer.
- In RHS, create a new dword and rename it to NoDriveTypeAutoRun.
- Right click on it and give it a decimal value 225 (or Hexadecimal value 000000FF).
- Exit regedit and Reboot.
Method 2

- Type gpedit.msc in the start search box and press ENTER. This will open up Group Policy Editor.
- Expand Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Click “Auto play Policies”
- In the RHS detail pane, double click Turn Off auto play to open the properties box.
- Click enabled and select all drives in the turn off autoplay on box to disable autorun on all drives.
So these above two methods will disable auto run of all devices and they are easy to implement.
