UNetbootin is a free utility that can be used to make bootable usb drives for Windows and Linux (Ubuntu). It is available for Windows and Linux and creates bootable USBs for all Linux distros and Windows.

The best thing is UNetbootin does not need to be installed. When you run stand-alone .exe file, you are presented with this file.

There are 40 different kinds of Linux distro to select from and for each distro you can select multiple versions. UNetbootin will then download the selected distro and version. You can also use local ISO disk image of operating system you want to use and click OK.
UNetbootin will then transfer the files to the USB drive you selected and make it bootable.

Create Google Chrome Theme using CRX Theme Creator

Google Chrome is getting more of browser market share by every day and help from Chrome community is great. There are several plugins for Chrome and tips for Chrome users that make Google’s browser more fun.

There are loads of free themes for Google Chrome and you can even create your own customized theme using CRX Theme Creator.

Follow this procedure to make a custom Chrome theme.

Download CRX Theme Creator which is a portable program. So you do not need to install it, just download and double click to launch
Now you need to PNG format images to use in your theme. Use Irfanview or Adobe Photoshop to convert any format images into PNG
Run crxtheme.exe and choose images and colors for your theme (use theme creation guide for Chrome for help)
Click View button for preview of the theme that you are creating on Chrome (you need to close any Chrome window if it is opened already)
Click Pack Theme button to pack your theme, a new file will be created by name theme.crx in the same folder as crxtheme.exe

Convert Video File using VLC Player

VLC Media Player is very high quality audio and video player for Windows, Linux and MAC. Its speed and portability makes it one of the most popular media players. VLC has some other features than playing audio/video and one of such feature is file conversion in VLC player. Here is a short tutorial on how to convert a file in different formats (mp3, mp4, asf, ogg, mpga and others) in VLC player. The file conversion option is very simple in VLC.

To convert a video file from one format to another, go to Media > Advance Open File. Make sure to pick Advance because the simple file opener dialog does not display conversion options. Use add buttons to add file/files that you want to convert. After adding all files that you want to convert, move mouse cursor to the arrow next to play button and choose convert from here.

In the second ‘Convert‘ dialog, select the output format and click start. Destination file is the path where file will be saved after conversion, you may want to change it using the browse button.

This is simple method to convert video file into different formats using VLC and conversion does not take long. Also checkout some VLC player skins and keyboard shortcuts for VLC player.
