iPhone 4 vs Blackberry Commercials

Apple and RIM have common theme in their recent TV commercials, both showing one reason to people to buy their products. Apple has released 4 iPhone 4 TV ads (5 if you add the first one that was introduced in keynote on iPhone 4 release) and all commercials are about Facetime.

RIM, on other hand, has recently released a few commercials and all of them are about Blackberry Messenger(BBM). This makes you think why Apple and RIM are not showing all great features their smart-phones come with. For instance, iPhone 4 can take HD videos and has the best display screen till date. But Facetime is only feature (which is one of the best things iPhone 4 has to offer) that is being advertised by Apple. Here is one of the commercial.

RIM knows that BBM is one of the best (if not best) IM clients of all time and they are getting the word out. They are showing people one reason to buy Blackberries. Here is one of the recent BBM commercial.

Moreover, iPhone 4 commercials show you how Facetime can dramatically improve what would normally be more traditional phone calls. You do not have to explain you haircut to anyone now, show them. Watch a new born baby through Facetime, do not just get a call about that.
RIM and Apple are both telling one reason to people (who are not tech savvy) to buy their product, and that one reason is something they both are proud of.

Blackberry Tablet PC in December?

You can not help but to talk about these rumors that RIM is planning and in process of developing a tablet PC that will release at the end of year (in holiday season, December). Boy Genius Report initiated the rumor telling people that RIM is developing a tablet that will come out later this year with 8.9″ screen.

BGR claimed that their sources at RIM say that the tablet will focus on multimedia and will not have cellular networking built in so it will rely on WiFi or blue-tooth. More on what this Blackberry Tablet will focus on, think about email, web browsing, e books, photos etc.
CNET has come up with some more information about device saying that the screen size will be 7-inch. More information they quoted from Ashok Kumar, an analyst and managing director at Rodman & Renshaw incldue.

Front and back facing camera
Processor from Marvell (Marvell 1GHz Armada 610 processor)
16-megapixel image captures, and advanced 3D graphics

From all these leaks, it is clear that RIM is going after Apple’s iPad. All stuff that people are claiming about this tablet PC looks like iPad so it will be interested to see what RIM will come up with. The front and back camera sound good (unless Apple decides to do the same in next generation iPads). One more thing i will like in their tablet (and next generation iPad) is that they should give access to file system so that we can save files and work with them on these devices.

Official Blackberry OS 6 Sneak Peak

Blackberry Storm 3 Specs Leaked

Blackberry phones are expecting some new Blackberry devices in 2010 including Blackberry 9800 and Storm 3. Blackberry 9800 Slider is now certain after various leaks.
Salomondrin has put up some leaked specifications of Blackberry Storm 3 which they think will not come out till next year.

Here is a look at these specifications

Limited testing of Storm 3 by RIM to avoid leaks
Shell is same as Storm 2 with different under the hood
1GHz Processor
512MB flash memory, later has been tested with 1GB
It will not run OS 6.0 but will come with a new OS
5MP camera
More widgets, personalization abilities
First or second Verizon’s LTE device release

The specs look promissing specially 1GHZ preocessor and new operating system. We will wait and see more information and leaks about this product in future.

Google Says No to Nexus Two Phone

There were rumors all around a while ago that Google is going to release version two of their Nexus One mobile phone called Nexus Two which will be second Google smart phone. The idea was that Google wants to release this phone with physical keyboard and will target business community.

Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, has denied any such plan from Google and stated that the company has no plan to release Nexus 2. Eric thinks they wanted to move the phone platform hardware business forward by releasing Nexus one and they did so. There is no plans to release another device in near future.
Here are Eric’s exact words on this issue

“The idea a year and a half ago was to do the Nexus One to try to move the phone platform hardware business forward. It clearly did. It was so successful, we didn’t have to do a second one. We would view that as positive but people criticised us heavily for that. I called up the board and said: ‘Ok, it worked. Congratulations – we’re stopping’. We like that flexibility, we think that flexibility is characteristic of nimbleness at our scale.”

Nexus One was best Android mobile phone in my opinion and has all capabilities to give Apple tough time if they release Nexus 2. Moreover, Nexus 1 had very successful launch and worked for Google.

Queen Visits RIM Headquarters – Gets Blackberry Bold 9700

Queen Elizabeth II visited RIM headquarters in Waterloo and RIM Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis was there to welcome the Royal Family. This was a short visit (around half an hour) and RIM’s CTO for software David Yach told media that ‘Royal Family uses Blackberries‘ which is impressive.

RIM CEO Mike Lazaridis presented the Queen with a Blackberry Bold 9700 White. They could make most of this event by presenting Blackberry 9800 to the queen which is already in final stages and will be shipped soon.

Blackberry Curve 9300 to Launch in UK

Blackberry 9300 (Curve)‘s launch is expected in August of this year in UK before US. T-Mobile will introduce new Blackberry 9300 in UK and images/videos of this device with T-Mobile logo leaked many times in past but it looks like RIM is not promoting the device in any way as yet.

There are no words on USA release but we suspect it will be after UK release. The device’s photo has been leaked more than one time and it is also coming in purple color which is another cool thing from RIM as they are going to try more colors other than black. Lets wait and see how it goes.

Nokia N8 is Last N-Serires Symbian Device

Nokia N8 is the last N-Series device that will come with Symbian platform and the next mobile phones in this series will run on MeeGo. CNET Australia has confirmed the news after contact with their sources at Nokia.

This means that only Nokia E-Series and X-Series (along with low end C-Series) will use Symbian (version ^3 and the future version ^4, existing series 40 platform). Nokia N9 will be the first MeeGo device. Nokia World is coming to London and we will have to see if Nokia can get some attention and hype for their upcoming stuff.

Nexus One Froyo FRF72 Update Available

The new software update for Nexus One Android 2.2 FRF72 is leaked that is an update from FRF50 stock. So if your Nexus One is unrooted, you can get the update and install it in your phone. You should have FRF50 installed before proceeding the upgrade.

The upgrade is only working on unrooted nexus one at the moment. The new release has better flash support for browser and other improvement for browser. Froyo FRF72 is only 1.8MB in size so get it now.
