    My favorite is split, the utility in Unix. If you’re on an OS X system, or a Linux system, it’s real easy to use, and is very flexible. Combine with cat to reconstitute.

    I have always used 7Zip which can split and merge really large files and can handle most compression formats incl rar. What I would want in a file splitter is one that can pause AND exit and resume later. A portable version is available: http://portableapps.com/
